No I do not think opks pick up hcg before HPTs can. If opks are positive in the TWW you should back it up with a hpt. If that's negative then in all likelihood you had your days wrong and are potentially ovulating. Opks don't always pick up hcg either. There have been pregnant women who use them and get negatives.
