I've been playing on the current beta build and it's been a blast so far.Otherwise there is a few "cheat" mod, or simply add -debug to the game launch option (steam), and heal yourself. Typing sandbox or cheat in teh workshop research will let you find them easily. There is also some other mod that let you cure yourself. The game will never tell you outright if you're infected. The infected condition on a wound means the wound is infected, not that you've been infected. Sometimes I think the devs should change it, but the confusion around it adds to the atmosphere of game.

The biggest problem with deep wounds is that they can't just be bandaged. You must do a few things before you can bandage them. To stitch the wound, players need a needle and a thread. A suture needle can be used to stitch a deep wound. Alternatively, if a suture needle is not available, a needle can be used with thread.
A normal infected wound just reduces your healing factor. Even if you ignore it completely, it will eventually go away assuming you didn't also get the zombie infection. For the zombie infection, since bites are 100% infection rate, if you were bitten that is your only guaranteed indicator that you have the zombie infection.
