At 40 years of age, he left his service as a physician in Malaysia to return to Rishikesh, India. There, he was initiated into sannyasa by Swami Visvananda Saraswati, thereby receiving the name, Swami Sivananda Saraswati. Yama is the practice of ahimsa, satya, asteya, brahmacharya and aparigraha–non-killing, truthfulness, non-stealing, celibacy and non-receiving of gifts. Among these brahmacharya is the most important.
